JAKARTA — To accelerate the transition to clean energy and address municipal waste issues, PT Asiana Technologies has launched a cutting-edge technological innovation capable of converting waste into alternative fuel. The company utilizes waste from landfills (TPA) as well as municipal solid waste to be processed into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF).

CEO and Inventor of PT Asiana Technologies, Poltak Sitinjak, explained that this processing technology produces RDF with a calorific value exceeding 3,500 kcal/kg. With these specifications, this processed waste product is considered highly suitable for use as fuel in the cement industry as well as co-firing fuel in coal-fired power plants (PLTU), thereby reducing dependency on fossil fuels.

Not only focusing on energy conversion, the company also released a smart containment system called the Smart Container. This container is specifically designed for urban areas with high waste traffic, such as traditional markets and commercial areas. Having a capacity of up to 20 tons, this container is equipped with drying technology capable of reducing the moisture content of wet waste by up to 40 percent.

This drying step is considered crucial because it prevents leachate leakage, which often drips and soils the streets during the transportation process. Poltak claims that the efficiency offered by the Smart Container can also cut transportation operational costs because it can replace the role of several conventional compactor trucks.

As a step to introduce it to the public, Asiana Technologies is preparing to showcase these innovations at the environmental technology exhibition Indowaste 2026. This international-scale exhibition is scheduled to take place from August 11 to 13, 2026, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. Through this exhibition, they hope this waste-to-fuel solution can be more widely adopted to support environmental sustainability while increasing the economic value of waste.
