The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banten Province is currently intensifying mitigation measures and operational preparedness following the upgrade of Mount Anak Krakatau's (GAK) status to Level III (Alert). The local government is committed to intensive monitoring to ensure the safety of the public along the Banten coast.
Head of the Banten Province BPBD, Lutfi Mujahidin, emphasized that his agency has prepared well-developed emergency response procedures. One of the main focuses is to ensure that the community has a 40-minute "golden time" to evacuate independently and in an organized manner if a potential tsunami is detected due to volcanic activity.
Lutfi stressed that the public should not panic excessively, as not every volcanic eruption automatically triggers a tsunami wave. The decision to evacuate will always be based on technical data analysis from the competent authorities, rather than speculation circulating on social media. Synergy is also being built by involving local elements, such as rapid evacuation training for members of the Tirta Tourism Rescue Lifeguard (Balawista).
On the other hand, tourism operations in the Anyer and Carita areas are guaranteed to run normally and remain safe for visitors. This is because these areas are outside the direct danger zone established by the volcanological authority. The public is urged to always refer to official information regarding the development of the volcano's status.
Meanwhile, volcano observer from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), Anggi Nuryo Saputro, provided a technical perspective on the current geological conditions. According to him, significant changes in the morphology of Mount Anak Krakatau make the character of its current volcanic activity different from past events, so the public is expected not to compare the current situation directly with past occurrences.
