PT Laksana Bus Manufaktur is taking strategic steps to maintain the growth of its coachbuilding business amidst a slowdown in demand for intercity interprovincial (AKAP) buses, tourism, and institutional vehicles. The company is now shifting its focus to developing the electric bus segment and special vehicles for the mining sector as part of its market diversification.
Technical Director of PT Laksana Bus Manufaktur, Stefan Arman, explained that the adaptation of electric vehicle technology is one of the company's top priorities. This step is being taken in line with the energy transition trend that is starting to enter the land transport industry in Indonesia.
In addition to product innovation, Laksana is also striving to boost export performance, which currently contributes about 5% of total production. The company targets market expansion to Thailand, South Asia, and East Timor to strengthen its position in the international market.
To support the realization of these plans, industry players hope for more concrete government policies, especially in the provision of financing incentives. Stefan emphasized that regulatory certainty is crucial for national coachbuilders to remain competitive, both domestically and when competing on the global stage.
