The Tambora National Park Authority (BTN Tambora) officially introduced the 'Tambora Jungle Run 2026' event during Car Free Day in Dompu on Sunday (5/7). This initiative is a strategic step to elevate the prestige of the Tambora National Park area to be on par with world-class sports tourism destinations through the concept of sustainable sports tourism.
The Head of the Tambora National Park Authority, Abdul Azis Bakry, explained that this activity was initiated in response to the central government's directives regarding the optimization of Tambora's natural potential. Through this international-scale cross-country race, it is hoped that a domino effect will be created for the economy of the local community, as well as increasing regional and national income, without forgetting the essence of conservation education for the participants.
The uniqueness of this event lies in the 'Indonesia Jungle Run Series' concept, which challenges runners' adrenaline through specific technical points. One of the most highlighted categories is the 'Sea to Summit 40K', where participants will test their stamina by running from zero meters above sea level (masl) to an altitude of 2,000 masl in the legendary Tambora mountain region.
In addition to this main category, the organizers have also prepared two other running categories to accommodate various ability levels. There is the 'Fun Trail 5K' category, which is dedicated to tourists and beginners with a route around the Doro Ncanga Deer Sanctuary, and the 'Savana Trail 10K', which is intended for intermediate runners, showcasing the beauty of the climbing trails and the exotic savanna.
Strategic collaboration between BTN Tambora, the NTB Provincial Government, the Dompu Regency Government, and Geopark Tambora is key to realizing this annual agenda. The Chairman of the Committee, Abdul Basit, invites the public and runners to register immediately through the official website or by directly visiting the BTN Tambora office on Jalan Syekh Muhammad, Dompu.
