Hundreds of protesters joined in the Islamic Brotherhood Forum (Fukhis) of Bekasi Regency held a rally in the Cikarang area as a form of strong protest against the planned revision of Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 3 of 2016 concerning Tourism Administration. This action was a response to the local government's initiative proposing changes to the regulation to the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) of Bekasi Regency.
Rally coordinator, Burhanudin Abdullah, emphasized that this rejection was based on public concern over the potential repeal of Article 47 paragraph (1) of the old regulation. The article has been the main legal umbrella prohibiting the operation of discotheques, bars, nightclubs, and massage parlors in the Bekasi Regency area. His side urged the government to instead tighten sanctions for violators rather than facilitating the presence of entertainment venues through regulatory revisions.
In the proposed draft revision, the absolute ban provision is planned to be replaced with a spatial zoning system. Although the local government argues that entertainment businesses would only be allowed in specific commercial, service, and industrial areas, Islamic scholars (ulama) still strongly reject it. They argue that the zoning policy still leaves room for entertainment venues that could potentially trigger moral degradation in society.
This action was triggered by a letter issued by the Acting Regent of Bekasi dated June 5, 2026, requesting the DPRD's approval to discuss the revision. In response, the protesters called for the dissolution of the Special Committee (Pansus) for the Perda revision and affirmed that all ulama elements in Bekasi will continue to oversee this process to ensure religious values are maintained in the region.
