SAMARINDA – In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining family health, the Cooperation Body of Women's Organizations (BKOW) of East Kalimantan organized a free health screening and education event for the early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The event took place at the BKOW Kaltim Secretariat, Jalan M. Yamin, Samarinda, on Saturday (25/7/2026).
This social and educational activity was carried out in close collaboration between BKOW East Kalimantan Province, the Samarinda Branch of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), Juanda Community Health Center (Puskesmas), and Bengkuring Community Health Center. The agenda generated high enthusiasm, with around 120 representatives attending from 43 women's organizations under the auspices of BKOW Kaltim.
The main focus of the event was a health seminar featuring cardiovascular specialist, dr. Syifa Mahmud Syukran Akbar, Sp.JP FIHA, AIPO-K. In his presentation, dr. Syifa emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and the early detection of NCD risk factors, such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus, to prevent deadly complications. The interactive educational session was moderated by Dr. Hj. Diah Riyani.
Following the presentation session, participants received direct medical checkup services free of charge. A joint medical team from IDI Samarinda and the two local community health centers promptly conducted blood pressure and blood sugar level screenings to detect potential health issues early on.
The Chairperson of the Committee for Social, Family Health, and Mental Development, dr. Hj. Padilah Rante Runa, M.Si, MARS, expressed her appreciation for the smooth running of the event. It is hoped that this synergy between women's organizations and medical practitioners will continue in a sustainable manner to foster a healthier and more resilient East Kalimantan community.
