Two teenage boys, MR (15) and MRA (16), were successfully rescued by a joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team after being reported lost in the Mount Jantan area, Karimun Regency. The evacuation process, which lasted until early Friday (10/7/2026) morning, ended with both victims safe and sound.
The incident began when the two went hiking on Thursday (9/7/2026) afternoon. Suspected of suffering from physical exhaustion, the two teenagers rested mid-trail and fell asleep. When they woke up, it was pitch dark, causing them to lose their sense of direction to head back down to the residential area.
In an effort to seek help, the victims managed to contact the Karimun Police 110 emergency line before communication was cut off due to a dead phone battery. The report was immediately followed up by the Tebing Police Station, which then coordinated with local rescue teams to begin an initial sweep.
Search operations were intensified with the involvement of the Tanjungbalai Karimun SAR Post Rescue Team, who arrived at the scene at 10:33 PM WIB. To overcome limited visibility in the dark forest area, officers used thermal drone technology to detect human body heat radiation.
Head of the Tanjungpinang Class A Search and Rescue Office, Fazzli, revealed that the efforts paid off at 12:40 AM WIB. The two teenagers were found approximately 50 meters from Trail Post 1. After being evacuated to the command post, the victims were immediately handed over to their families in safe and healthy condition.
