The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges the public to increase vigilance against health problems caused by extreme weather during this year's dry season. The dry period, which is predicted to last longer, increases the risk of acute dehydration and even fatal conditions such as heatstroke or heat stroke.
Heat stroke is an emergency medical condition that occurs when body temperature rises drastically beyond normal limits. This is triggered by the failure of the body's temperature regulation system after prolonged exposure to hot air and scorching sun.
The risk of this condition increases significantly for individuals who force outdoor physical activity without adequate fluid intake. Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with comorbidities require extra attention because their physical defenses are more sensitive to temperature changes.
As a preventive measure, the public is advised to consume sufficient mineral water before feeling thirsty, limit caffeine and alcohol consumption, and minimize outdoor activities under direct scorching sun. If early symptoms such as dizziness, sudden weakness, or decreased consciousness appear, immediately seek shade and visit the nearest health service facility.
