The celebration of the 80th Bhayangkara Day in South Sumatra reached its peak with the successful organization of the 2026 Kapolda Sumsel Cup VI Badminton Championship. The event, which took place at the Drs. Warsito Badminton Hall in Palembang, was officially closed on Friday (10/7) evening after recording an impressive participation rate of 1,078 athletes from various backgrounds.
The tournament carried a strong spirit of inclusivity by featuring a wide range of categories, from early age classes to the 90-year-old veteran doubles category. The Chief of South Sumatra Regional Police, Inspector General Dr. Sandi Nugroho, expressed that this championship is more than just physical competition; it is a platform to forge discipline, honesty, and sportsmanship in the community.
"Through this court, we hope to see the birth of talented athletes who can bring pride to South Sumatra on the national stage. This is a space for us to build strong character and strengthen brotherhood among citizens," said Inspector General Sandi Nugroho in his closing remarks.
The closing ceremony was lively, witnessed by the South Sumatra Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), military (TNI) representatives, as well as various government agencies and state-owned enterprises (BUMN). The presence of leaders from these various institutions reinforces the commitment to synergy in supporting sports development in the region. The police also emphasized that this event will become a sustainable agenda to support the local sports ecosystem.
The Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mumin Wijaya, added that the enthusiasm of the thousands of participants is an indicator of the National Police's success in getting closer to the community. According to him, the initiative to facilitate an educational and competitive public space is part of the Police's "Presisi" vision, namely appearing as a humanist public servant beyond the realm of law enforcement.
