East Java Governor, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, officially opened the Jatim Open I National Roller Skating Championship for the East Java Governor's Cup 2026 at the Kanjuruhan Roller Skating Rink, Malang Regency, on Saturday (11/7/2026). This prestigious event recorded extraordinary participation with the involvement of 2,436 athletes representing 133 teams from various corners of the country.
The start of the competition was symbolized by the firing of an electronic starting gun by Governor Khofifah, accompanied by the Regent of Malang, Sanusi, and the General Chairperson of PB Perserosi, Velix Wanggai. In her address, the Governor emphasized that the provincial government is fully committed to building a sustainable sports ecosystem, ranging from the provision of infrastructure to consistent athlete development.
More than just a medal-hunting event, Khofifah views this tournament as a laboratory for character development and discipline for the younger generation. According to her, achievements on the track are the fruit of long hard work and dedication. She also emphasized that sports serve as an effective instrument to protect the younger generation from negative influences, such as drug abuse, by channeling their energy in a more positive direction.
On the same occasion, the General Chairperson of PB Perserosi, Velix Wanggai, highly appreciated the quality of the Jatim Open I organization. He assessed that East Java has a strong foundation, both in terms of infrastructure and development systems, to continue being a respected breeding ground for national athletes. The success of East Java athletes in the recent XXI PON is clear proof that the sports ecosystem in this region is highly productive.
This championship is also a crucial event for coaches to conduct talent scouting. Young talented athletes who perform brilliantly at the Jatim Open I are projected to be prepared to strengthen regional and national contingents to face the challenges of higher-level competitions in the future.
