The hiking trail on Mount Lawang, which traverses the Bendungan Nature Reserve in Bendungan Village, Kaliwiro District, Wonosobo Regency, has now officially opened for outdoor enthusiasts. The opening of the hiking access, which began on Saturday (4/7/2026), comes with a primary mission of environmental preservation through an integrated ecotourism concept.
The Coordinator of RPB SAR Kaliwiro, Habib, emphasized that this destination does not merely offer a physical challenge for hikers, but also serves as an educational tool for the public. The main focus is to foster a collective sense of responsibility in maintaining the integrity of the flora, fauna, and ecosystem within the Bendungan Nature Reserve to protect it from damage.
Unlike popular mountains in Wonosobo such as Sindoro or Sumbing, Mount Lawang features characteristics of a Secondary Natural Forest (SNF) that is relatively untouched. Situated at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level (masl), hikers will be presented with a 5 to 6-kilometer route through dense and diverse forest vegetation, providing a unique experience for every visitor.
In addition to the rich biodiversity, hikers will also be treated to stunning sunrise and sunset views against the backdrop of Mount Sindoro and Mount Sumbing. For those wishing to try this trail, registration is centered at the Bendungan Village Office, with a promotional rate of IDR 25,000, down from the normal price of IDR 30,000 per person.
To ensure safety during the activities, the management has stationed RPB SAR Kaliwiro personnel at the basecamp. The team is prepared to provide safety support and emergency handling for hikers, ensuring that recreational activities run in harmony with nature conservation principles.
