Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located in East Nusa Tenggara, experienced another significant eruption on Sunday (5/7/2026) morning. According to an official report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the eruption was detected at exactly 07:04 WITA.
Volcanic material in the form of an ash column was observed rising 1,400 meters above the mountain's peak. The thick gray ash spew was reported to be moving towards the north and northeast. This activity was clearly recorded on a seismogram, which registered a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm with an eruption duration of approximately 1 minute and 14 seconds.
As of now, geological authorities have not detailed any damage or potential casualties in the surrounding residential areas. However, as a preventive measure, local residents and tourists are strictly prohibited from conducting any activities within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center.
In addition to the threat of eruption, the public is urged to remain calm and always refer to official information from the Local Government to avoid misinformation. Residents living near riverbeds originating from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, such as in the Dulipali, Nobo, and Hokeng Jaya areas, are asked to increase vigilance against potential cold lava mudflows (lahar), especially during high-intensity rainfall.
