Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar emphasized the importance of collaboration between higher education, technology, and the quality of human resources (HR) to drive Indonesia's progress. He conveyed this while attending the peak celebration of the 1st Dies Natalis of Sunan Gresik University (USG) held in Sidayu, Gresik Regency, East Java.
In his speech, the figure familiarly known as Gus Muhaimin highly appreciated the rapid development of USG, despite being only one year old. He assessed that the campus has great potential to become a driving force of change, particularly in producing academics and practitioners capable of contributing directly to regional and national progress.
Gus Muhaimin also highlighted current challenges in education, where many university graduates are not yet ready to enter the workforce. To address this challenge, he entrusted a mandate to the entire academic community of USG to educate students to have a leadership mindset and readiness to face industrial dynamics.
Welcoming the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment outlined three strategic roles that USG must undertake. First, the campus must actively contribute to poverty alleviation. Second, it must become a center for vocational and academic education that produces job-ready human resources as well as job creators. Third, it must generate applied research that offers real solutions to national problems.
At the end of the event, Gus Muhaimin symbolically handed over community development funds to residents living around the campus as well as government research funds to USG students whose research proposals were accepted. This step is expected to spark a spirit of innovation within the academic environment of USG.
