The Hanoi City Government has officially launched the Physical Education and Sports Development Plan for preschool and elementary school levels, active until 2030. This strategic initiative is designed as a concrete implementation of Vietnam's national policy to strengthen public health and improve the quality of physical education for the younger generation in the capital.
This program has high ambitions: by 2030, at least 80 percent of elementary school graduates are expected to have basic skills in a sport of their choice. In addition, all educational institutions in Hanoi are required to provide at least two sports options for students and integrate daily physical activities into the school curriculum to foster active lifestyle habits from an early age.
In addition to focusing on technical skills, this plan also pays close attention to holistic health aspects. The primary target is to ensure that over 95 percent of students meet ideal physical development standards. City authorities have also prepared mitigation measures for students facing health issues such as malnutrition or obesity through integrated monitoring and medical intervention involving both schools and families.
To realize these targets, the Hanoi government has drafted a roadmap divided into two main phases, starting in 2026. The initial phase will focus on strengthening infrastructure and designating several pilot schools as success models. As supporting measures, Hanoi will also improve the quality of teaching staff, update physical education materials, and leverage digital technology to regularly monitor students' fitness progress.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has been appointed as the main coordinator, collaborating cross-sectorally with the Department of Health and the Department of Culture and Sports. This synergy is expected to create a school ecosystem that not only excels academically but also shapes a younger generation with strong character, discipline, teamwork, and physical resilience.
