The Government of the Republic of Indonesia officially implements the B50 Mandatory Program starting July 13, 2026. This policy is pursued as a response to the urgent need to maintain macroeconomic foundations and ensure a stable energy supply for all citizens amidst increasingly volatile global economic challenges.
Head of the Government Communications Agency, Muhammad Qodari, emphasized that this policy is not merely an administrative instrument, but a proactive step to strengthen energy independence. Amid the rapid digital transformation and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the industrial sector, energy stability is a crucial pillar to ensure that economic growth, which reached 5.08 percent at the end of 2025, can be sustained.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, now plays a central role in ensuring the effective execution of this program. The public has high expectations for the relevant ministry to formulate a transparent roadmap, especially regarding renewable energy capacity targets, projected investment needs, and protection schemes for communities directly impacted by this energy transition.
Transparency is key to the success of this policy. The government is urged to address public concerns regarding the long-term economic impact, including potential job creation in the new energy sector and guarantees of affordable energy prices for MSMEs, farmers, and fishermen. The use of data technology and AI-based monitoring is expected to serve as an instrument to oversee the effectiveness of the program's implementation on the ground.
The success of the B50 program is measured not only by statistical figures on paper, but by its ability to adapt to real needs in regions.
