The Ministry of Environment (KLH) spoke out regarding technical constraints hindering the fire extinguishing process at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA), Mauk District, Tangerang Regency. The massive pile of waste poses a main challenge for field officers.

Deputy Minister of Environment, Diaz Hendropriyono, stated that the structure of the waste mountain containing methane gas as well as combustible materials inside causes the fire to be difficult to tame completely. This condition causes the fire to often re-emerge despite massive spraying efforts by the firefighting team.

Furthermore, the ministry ensured that coordination with local governments continues to be tightened to deploy additional resources. Temperature cooling efforts at vulnerable points continue to be carried out to minimize the spread of fire to wider areas around the waste disposal location.

The government hopes that communities around the Mauk area remain vigilant regarding air quality impacts caused by fire smoke. Comprehensive handling is currently being prepared so that similar incidents do not recur and the waste management system at the location can operate again with better safety standards.
