The technological innovation race in the two-wheeler automotive industry is heating up. Chinese manufacturer QJMotor has reportedly just filed a patent for an active aerodynamics system that allows winglet components on sportbikes to move dynamically, in sync with the vehicle's maneuvers on both the road and the track.
According to patent documents, this cutting-edge technology is designed to integrate directly with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The system allows the aerodynamic wings on the fairing to move independently, much like an aircraft's ailerons, helping the motorcycle tackle corners with greater agility and precision.
The main function of these active winglets becomes clear during hard braking. The wings automatically rotate downward to create additional air resistance, aiding deceleration while generating extra downforce on the front wheel to ensure optimal tire grip on the asphalt.
Not only excelling in braking, this technology is also claimed to improve acceleration performance. Unlike static winglets that continuously generate drag, this active system can adjust its position to be more aerodynamic on straightaways, allowing the vehicle to maintain maximum speed without being hindered by excessive downforce.
This move by QJMotor sends a strong signal that they are ready to challenge the dominance of CFMoto, which previously showcased a similar concept at EICMA. Although the effectiveness of this feature remains a topic of debate among engineers, this development is predicted to open a new chapter in the aerodynamics tech race within the global superbike segment.
