A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team conducted an emergency rescue operation for a hiker who suffered serious injuries on Mount Bulu Baria, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. The victim, identified as Reyhan (25), was reportedly unable to walk due to a tailbone injury sustained after falling from a hammock at Post 8.
The accident occurred on Saturday (July 25, 2026) morning at around 10:00 AM WITA (Central Indonesia Time). Given the victim's condition, which required immediate medical attention, the Class A Makassar Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) deployed a rescue team shortly after receiving the emergency report.
Head of the Operations and Alert Section of Basarnas Makassar, Andi Sultan, explained that they dispatched ten rescuers equipped with specialized medical gear and a spinal board. The rescue team departed from Makassar for the foot of the mountain, arriving at the hiking registration post in the evening to coordinate with the Gowa Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and other SAR units.
After a challenging night climb, the joint SAR team finally reached the victim's location at Post 8 on Sunday (July 26, 2026) at around 4:00 AM WITA. On-site medical personnel immediately administered first aid to stabilize the victim's physical condition before moving him onto a specialized spinal immobilization stretcher.
The evacuation from Post 8 to the registration post at the foot of the mountain took several hours due to the difficult terrain. This rescue operation involved close collaboration between Basarnas Makassar, the Gowa Regency BPBD, several SAR volunteer organizations, and local residents stationed along the hiking trail.
