The car-free area or Car Free Day (CFD) in the center of Ketapang City is now growing rapidly, extending beyond its initial function as just a sports arena. Every weekend, this routine agenda transforms into an integrated public service center, offering free health check-ups and serving as a driving force for the creative economy for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
On Sunday (26/7/2026), thousands of residents packed the CFD area, which stretches from Kedondong Park to the HOS Cokroaminoto Road Three-Way Intersection, from 06.00 to 09.00 WIB. The public's enthusiasm was palpable with the presence of the Regent of Ketapang, Alexander Wilyo, who immediately mingled and interacted warmly with various groups of people utilizing the public space.
One of the important agendas in this CFD was the launch of the Digital Population Identity (IKD) service by the Population and Civil Registry Office (Disdukcapil) of Ketapang Regency in the yard of the Pancasila Building. The presence of this post makes it easier for residents to access population documents digitally. The regional government is committed to continuing to provide regular public services in the CFD area, ranging from electronic KTP (ID card) recording, Family Card (KK) processing, to Child Identity Card (KIA) creation.
At a different location, precisely in front of Café Nuba, the Health Office of Ketapang Regency also participated by opening a free health service post. The community utilized this facility to conduct early detection of non-communicable diseases through blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checks, as well as consulting directly with the medical officers on duty.
The economic sector also felt a significant positive impact from the implementation of this CFD. Dozens of local MSME stalls selling various traditional culinary delights and typical Ketapang craft products were crowded with buyers. Interestingly, the traders showed high environmental awareness by independently preparing trash bags to maintain cleanliness along the pedestrian path.
Regent Alexander Wilyo emphasized that the Ketapang Regency Government will continue to organize and develop the CFD area to become an inclusive, healthy, and productive public space. He also committed to improving supporting facilities such as sidewalks and city parks so that the community feels more comfortable enjoying the weekend in the city center.
