More than 300 young cyclists from 12 regions across the country gathered in Phu Tho Province to compete in the 31st Youth National Road and Mountain Bike Championship. This prestigious tournament serves as a showcase for potential athletes hailing from training centers and prominent cycling clubs.
Participants, comprising 100 mountain bike athletes and 200 road cyclists, will compete for 86 sets of medals. Taking place from July 9 to 19, the competition is divided into U16, U17-18, and U23 age categories to ensure fairness and structured development for each athlete.
Deputy Director of the Phu Tho Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Dao Tien Cuong, stated that this event serves as a benchmark for local training quality. Additionally, the championship functions as a rigorous selection process for coaches to recruit top talent projected for the national team to compete regionally and internationally.
The competition schedule has been systematically structured, with mountain biking events held on July 9-12 in the Thong Nhat ward, while road cycling races will take place across the Hoa Binh and Tan Hoa areas from July 13 to 19. A variety of events, ranging from time trials to cross-country races, will test the physical and technical abilities of these young athletes.
Beyond the competitive aspect, hosting the tournament offers Phu Tho a strategic opportunity to promote its tourism potential, rich history, and local sports infrastructure readiness following its administrative expansion. The championship is expected to foster regional cooperation while introducing the ancestral land's cultural identity to a broader public.
