A group of students from various organizations at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK), Teuku Umar University (UTU) recently completed a community service program titled 'Saweu Gampong' in Reudeup Village, Meureubo District, West Aceh. For five days, from June 26 to 30, 2026, they integrated health science disciplines to improve the quality of life of local residents.

The collaboration involving DPM, BEM, as well as student associations from Public Health, Nutrition, and OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) departments focused on three main pillars: occupational safety, child nutrition fulfillment, and clean lifestyle education. Given the village's location along a mining transport corridor, students provided intensive guidance on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and risk management for residents interacting with mining operational vehicles.

To address the challenge of stunting, the student team invited the local community to process local food into Supplementary Feeding (PMT) that is highly nutritious yet economical. This step is projected as an independent solution so residents no longer rely on external food products to sustainably improve their family's nutritional status.

In addition to targeting adults, the program also reached elementary school children through the promotion of clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS) using attractive methods. The series of service activities concluded with a free health check-up agenda covering blood pressure, blood sugar, and uric acid checks for the elderly and adult residents in the village.

Committee Chairman, Afrihal Dwi Andika, emphasized that this initiative serves as a platform for students to apply lecture theory to real community needs. The local village government also expressed high appreciation, considering that the students' presence has provided motivation and new perspectives for residents in managing village potential to create a healthier and more independent environment.
