The Social Security Administrator for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) serves as the main pillar of health protection for the Indonesian public. Nevertheless, it is important for every member to understand that not all types of treatments or medical procedures are covered under the national insurance scheme.

Based on Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2018, there are clear limits regarding services that are not guaranteed. These provisions are made to ensure the efficient management of health insurance funds for all citizens.

Broadly speaking, these exclusions range from aesthetic procedures, such as plastic surgery and dental braces, to medical actions resulting from intentional behavior, such as self-harm attempts or the effects of alcohol consumption. Additionally, health services related to criminal acts, brawls, and experimental medical procedures are also not covered.

This program also does not cover services that are already covered by other schemes, such as work-related accidents covered by employers or traffic accidents that have specific guarantees. Furthermore, treatments received abroad, non-partner health facilities outside of emergency situations, and complementary medicines that have not been clinically tested are also on the exclusion list.

Understanding these benefit limitations is crucial so that the public can prepare themselves with appropriate health financial planning and avoid miscalculating medical expenses when requiring treatment at health facilities.
