Realizing that marriage is a long journey that requires thorough preparation, the Directorate General of Buddhist Community Guidance (Ditjen Bimas Buddha) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia emphasizes the importance of the Marriage Counseling (Bimwin) program for prospective brides and grooms. This step is taken not merely to fulfill administrative requirements, but as a strategic effort to equip couples with mental, spiritual, and physical readiness before building a family.
In accordance with the regulations set out in the Decision of the Director General of Buddhist Community Guidance, Bimwin is now a mandatory prerequisite for every couple planning to hold a vivahamangala ceremony. This program is designed to deepen the understanding of the rights and obligations of husbands and wives, conflict management, and the application of Buddhist teachings such as metta (loving-kindness) and karuna (compassion) so that couples can realize a family that is hita sukhaya, or happy and prosperous.
Not only focusing on religious guidance, the Directorate General of Buddhist Community Guidance is also collaborating with the Ministry of Health to provide education on reproductive health and stunting prevention. Through this collaboration, every prospective bride and groom is required to undergo health checks and immunizations, ensuring that the generation born to Buddhist families consists of quality and healthy individuals.
Through implementation involving various Buddhist religious councils, the government hopes this program can increase family resilience in Indonesia. With comprehensive preparation, every couple is expected not only to be legally ready but also capable of implementing the noble values of the Dhamma in their daily household lives, creating a harmonious and resilient family within society.
