The staging of the FIFA World Cup 2026, taking place across three countries, marks a new milestone not only in terms of tournament scale but also thanks to the implementation of cutting-edge technology. As the Official Technology Partner of FIFA, Lenovo has successfully integrated artificial intelligence (AI) to support all aspects of operations, from initial preparations to the final match.

With 48 teams competing in 104 matches across 16 cities, the complexity of this tournament demands a highly reliable digital infrastructure. Lenovo met this challenge by deploying more than 25,000 Lenovo and Motorola smart devices. This massive operation was directly overseen by 350 engineers and specialists deployed across 600 FIFA locations, including stadiums, command centers, and training camps. All systems reportedly recorded an outstanding uptime level of up to 99.99 percent.

One of the main breakthroughs in this tournament is the FIFA AI Pro platform, jointly developed by Lenovo and FIFA. This analytics platform democratizes data access for all contestants, enabling even teams with limited resources to utilize it. Lenovo's Chief Information Officer, Art Hu, explained that the platform processes millions of data points and thousands of performance metrics into 3D visualizations accessible via natural language in 16 languages.

In addition to team analytics, viewers worldwide are treated to a more immersive broadcast quality thanks to the 'Referee View' feature. This AI-powered technology is capable of reducing the shake of body-worn cameras used by referees by up to 60 percent in real-time. Based on surveys, the majority of viewers felt closer to the match atmosphere and rated their viewing experience as dramatically improved thanks to this innovation.

The fairness of the match was also enhanced through semi-automated offside technology utilizing 3D avatars of 1,248 players. Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang emphasized that the 2026 World Cup serves as tangible proof of how a smart technology ecosystem—spanning hardware to AI solutions—can work in harmony to ensure the success of the world's largest sporting event.
