The Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Muhammadiyah, under the auspices of the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), actively participated in the prestigious WHO Ministerial Conference on Advancing Health Security through Earthquake Emergency Management. This international forum, held in Istanbul, Turkey, on July 1-2, 2026, was attended by health ministers, academics, and disaster management practitioners from 40 countries.
During a high-level panel session, the Coordinator of EMT Muhammadiyah, Corona Rintawan, served as a panelist to share insights into the importance of learning systems in disaster response. Corona emphasized that field documentation, operational research, and after-action review mechanisms are crucial foundations for evaluating and enhancing the quality of future medical preparedness.
Muhammadiyah's presence at this forum serves as proof of global recognition for the organization's tangible contributions to strengthening resilient health ecosystems. Muhammadiyah's long-standing experience in humanitarian missions, both nationally and internationally, is considered strategically relevant in addressing global health emergency challenges resulting from earthquake disasters.
On the same occasion, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, presented Indonesia's commitment to strengthening the national health system. These steps include the development of the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC), standardizing EMTs according to WHO regulations, and integrating Safe Hospital Guidelines into the hospital accreditation system across Indonesia.
Through this forum, Indonesia, together with humanitarian organizations such as Muhammadiyah, reaffirmed the importance of sustainable investment in resilient health systems. Global collaboration, simulation training, and systematic knowledge exchange are expected to create more effective and efficient response standards when facing future disaster challenges.
