Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) has once again shown a significant increase in volcanic activity. Based on monitoring data from the GAK Observation Post for the period of 12:00 to 18:00 WIB, the volcano, which is currently at Level III (Alert) status, was observed spewing an ash column reaching a height of 150 meters above the crater peak.
An officer at the GAK Observation Post, Muhammad Dika Nurzaman, explained that visually, the crater smoke was observed to be white with varying intensity, ranging from thin to thick. Weather conditions around the location were reported to be predominantly clear to cloudy, with gentle winds blowing toward the northwest.
In addition to visual activity, seismograph instruments recorded quite active seismic fluctuations. A total of 24 harmonic earthquakes were recorded with amplitudes ranging from 1.7 to 21.1 millimeters and durations up to 1,058 seconds. Furthermore, one distant tectonic earthquake was detected with an amplitude of 24 millimeters.
Amid the increase in activity, water conditions around the Mount Anak Krakatau area are currently reported to remain calm. Relevant authorities continue to urge the public and fishermen to adhere to the designated safety radius to avoid potential risks from the volcanic activity.
