The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) together with the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia has just added new strength to the national para-sport ecosystem. A total of 72 participants have now officially earned the status of certified physical para-sport classifiers, after completing a series of intensive training sessions in two major cities.
The training, which involved a total of 77 participants from 28 provinces, was divided into two zones. The western region was centered in Solo on May 19–22, 2026, with a perfect pass rate of 45 participants. Meanwhile, the training for the eastern region, which took place in Makassar from June 29 to July 2, 2026, successfully produced 27 new classifiers from the 32 registered participants.
Acting Assistant Deputy for Sports Personnel and Organizations of Achievement of Kemenpora, Leny Kurnia, emphasized that the addition of these personnel is a strategic step by the government to create equal distribution of development. The presence of experts in the regions is expected to reach para-athletes who have not yet been optimally recorded, so that every province will eventually have competent classifier representatives.
Echoing this sentiment, Chief Classifier of NPC Indonesia, Dr. Retno Setianing, Sp.KFR (K), highlighted the urgency of the role of classification as an absolute requirement in every competition. According to her, the classification process is a crucial instrument to ensure fairness and equality on the field of play.
Furthermore, Dr. Retno hopes that these new classifiers can play an active role in mapping the potential of athletes in their respective regions. This step is projected not only to strengthen development at the local level but also to become part of Indonesia's strategic preparations for the upcoming 2028 Paralympics.
