Ahead of the start of the 2026/2027 competitive season and a series of pre-season tournaments, Persebaya Surabaya is now focusing its training program on accelerating the adaptation of its new players. This step is taken as a collective effort to ensure all players can integrate with the Bajul Ijo playstyle before the official competition begins.
Persebaya's head coach, Bernardo Tavares, took a strategic policy by combining physical and tactical training portions since the first session at ABC Field, Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium complex, Surabaya. According to the Portuguese coach, this integration is crucial given the tight preparation time the team has before facing a busy match schedule.
"We deliberately combine physical and tactical aspects from the start because of the presence of many new players in the squad. They are required to quickly understand the philosophy and the way we want to play so that team chemistry is formed quickly," said Tavares.
The remaining time is indeed quite short. Persebaya is scheduled to test their readiness in a match titled the 99th Anniversary Game against PSIS Semarang. This highly anticipated match by supporters will be held at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Sunday (19/7/2026), serving as an initial benchmark for the Bajul Ijo squad this season.
