The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized that differences of opinion and competition in political contests are normal in a democracy. During the Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday (13/3/2026), he stated that five-yearly competitions such as the regional elections (Pilkada), legislative elections (Pileg), and presidential election (Pilpres) should not be obstacles to the continuity of national development.
Nevertheless, the President reminded all parties to immediately end the rivalry once the election process is complete. According to him, national solidarity is the main key for Indonesia to face increasingly complex and uncertain global challenges. He stressed that the nation's interests must be placed above the interests of specific groups or political factions.
On the same occasion, the Head of State highlighted the phenomenon of a handful of observers who he assessed tend to spread pessimism and public anxiety. Prabowo described this attitude as unpatriotic, especially if driven by motives of dislike toward the government's success or the ongoing intensive corruption eradication efforts.
Responding to the potential disruption of stability, the President revealed that he has obtained intelligence information regarding parties funding these observers. Although he has data on the actors behind these negative narratives, he stated that he continues to prioritize an evidence-based approach to raise public awareness.
Prabowo also ensured that the government would take firm measures to control parties deemed to be attempting to obstruct the government's progress. He chose to remain focused on policies that can reassure the public through real performance, while continuing to monitor developments on the ground.
