Chairman of the Central Executive Board of Muhammadiyah, Busyro Muqoddas, emphasized that Muhammadiyah's involvement in the dynamics of national politics is nothing new. According to him, the role of this organization has been crystal clear—or in Javanese terms, cetho welo-welo—since its inception through the journey toward Indonesia's independence.
During an internal Islamic study session, Busyro highlighted a number of central Muhammadiyah figures, such as KH Ahmad Dahlan, General Sudirman, Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Ahmad Muzakkir, and Kasman Singodimedjo. These figures were active not only in proselytization and social spheres, but were also key architects of the national political journey, including their participation in formulating the state foundation alongside President Soekarno.
Busyro referred to Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Ahmad Muzakkir, and Kasman Singodimedjo as Muhammadiyah's three political champions who made tangible contributions to the nation. For him, their involvement proves that Muhammadiyah holds a strategic and consistent position in safeguarding the country's sovereignty and development.
In addition to highlighting the historical track record, Busyro stressed that the main foundation of organizational and state affairs is morality (akhlak). He believes that individual moral quality impacts family harmony, which in turn creates a healthier and more integrity-driven social, political, and economic order.
Concluding his message, Busyro urged all Muhammadiyah members to stay away from stinginess and greed, which are considered sources of disaster. Instead, he invited everyone to continuously cultivate gratitude in order to achieve shared prosperity, both at the personal level and on a national scale.
