The South Korean entertainment industry has recorded another innovative breakthrough through the television series "Agent Kim Reactivated," which airs on the SBS channel. The drama has caught the public's attention for its full use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create a large-scale, three-minute action sequence that is a crucial part of the backstory of the protagonist, Manager Kim.
The narrative sequence was produced using the AICRON platform, a technology designed by local visual effects (VFX) experts. The scene, set in North Korea, includes various complex visual elements, such as building explosions, car chases in extreme terrain, and a dramatic underwater rescue scenario. The use of AI was chosen as an efficient solution to depict the complexity of the character's background without having to bear the cost of on-location shoots or conventional practical effects.
Hong Sung-chang, CEO of Studio S, emphasized that this initiative is the company's first step in integrating AI into their future projects. As a form of transparency to the audience, the studio is committed to displaying on-screen disclaimers whenever AI technology is used. In addition to cost efficiency, this step aims to prove the potential of technology to expand the scope of imagination for visual creators.
The integration process of this technology was supervised by a team from Morpheus Studio led by Ryu Jae-hwan, an experienced visual effects expert. According to Ryu, the use of AI in "Agent Kim Reactivated" goes beyond simple visual effects editing. The entire sequence, which is essential to the narrative, was designed from the beginning with AI involvement, making it tangible proof that the technology has now transformed into a vital production tool for filmmakers in the Korean drama industry.
