Volcanic activity at Mount Semeru in East Java has increased again after it reportedly erupted five consecutive times on Monday (3/8/2026) morning. Authorities noted that the height of the volcanic ash columns spewed from the peak of the tallest mountain on Java Island ranged from 300 to 700 meters.
According to a report by Liswanto, an officer at the Mount Semeru Observation Post, the series of eruptions began in the early hours of the morning. The first eruption was detected at 00:18 WIB with an ash column height of around 500 meters above the peak. Shortly after, at 00:31 WIB, a second eruption followed with an ash column reaching up to 700 meters, drifting towards the north, showing white to gray colors with moderate intensity.
Anticipating this increase in volcanic activity, authorities continue to conduct intensive monitoring to provide regular updates to the public. Local residents and tourists are reminded to comply with safety recommendations, particularly by staying away from the designated danger zone radius to avoid the physical impact of the eruptions.
