Resident judge of the talent search show Big Stage Rocketfuel (BSR), Aisha Retno, warned contestants to be wiser when improvising on stage. According to her, excessive vocal modifications risk ruining the original identity of a song if not executed maturely.
Aisha explained that the essence of improvisation is to add value that beautifies the arrangement, not to completely overhaul the structure of the song until it loses its soul. She noted that some contestants who have tried to stray too far from the original melody have failed to convey the message of the song properly.
As an alumna of the competition, the singer emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between creativity and respecting the original work. She suggested that contestants should not hesitate to make use of the available facilities, such as consulting with vocal coaches and the production team provided by the organizers.
On that occasion, Aisha specifically highlighted the performance of one of the contestants, Yad-Z. While acknowledging that Yad-Z has great potential and a strong star aura, Aisha felt that his performance could become directionless without proper consultation with the internal team.
Through this feedback, Aisha hopes that all Big Stage Rocketfuel participants can be more open to receiving constructive criticism to improve the quality of their performances in the upcoming rounds.
