Volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau as of Wednesday (8/7/2026) is still monitored at Level III or Alert. Based on the latest report from the Volcano Observation Post under the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the public is urged not to be easily influenced by unverified information regarding eruptions or tsunami threats.
An officer at the Anak Krakatau Observation Post, Deny Mardiono, emphasized that the exclusion zone for tourists, hikers, and the general public remains in effect within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater. Monitoring data recorded seismic activity comprising five eruption earthquakes as well as continuous tremor activity. Visually, the main crater emitted white to gray smoke with varying intensity.
Responding to rumors circulating on social media, Head of the Serang Regency Communication, Informatics, Statistics and Encryption Agency (Diskominfo), Surtaman, emphasized the importance of being wise when receiving information. He urged the public to always verify news by referring to official communication channels of the PVMBG, BMKG, BNPB, or local BPBD before spreading any rumors, so as not to trigger panic in the coastal areas of Banten and Lampung.
Despite having a history of significant volcanic activity, including the tsunami event in 2018, authorities stressed that Mount Anak Krakatau is currently under strict surveillance. The public is advised to carry on with their daily activities as usual while continuing to monitor updates on the volcano's status through credible government sources.
