Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, has finally spoken out in response to the widespread public discussion regarding the phenomenon at Mount Kawi, East Java. Spotlight on the area increased sharply after magician and content creator Marcel Radhival, popularly known as Pesulap Merah (Red Magician), uploaded his visit to investigate issues of pesugihan (wealth rituals) and sacrificial practices often associated with the location.
During his visit, Marcel engaged in a direct dialogue with the local caretaker to dig deeper into the developing traditions. Fadli Zon views this phenomenon as part of the mosaic of cultural diversity and long-standing traditions in Indonesia. According to him, public understanding of various phenomena across the country varies greatly.
Fadli Zon emphasized that the government respects the cultural approach taken by communities in various regions. The senior politician argued that as long as activities in the location provide economic benefits to local residents and do not cause harm or social disturbance, it is considered a reality of community life.
This statement was delivered by Fadli Zon on the sidelines of the event designating July 13 as the Day of Belief in Almighty God at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta. According to Fadli, the government's main focus remains on preserving cultural values that are constructive for the welfare of the local community.
