The Mount Gede Pangrango National Park Office (BBTNGGP) urges the public not to hike mountains simply because they are influenced by social media trends or the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) phenomenon. This warning was issued following the viral video of the evacuation of a group of "tektok" hikers—a round-trip hiking method without camping—who suffered from extreme exhaustion on the Mount Gede climbing trail.
BBTNGGP officials emphasized that such fast-paced hiking activities are actually safe to perform. However, hikers must meet several absolute requirements, ranging from prime physical readiness and understanding of area regulations to possessing adequate standard safety equipment.
Furthermore, the park management reminds that conquering mountain trails demands great responsibility and thorough preparation. Hiking should not merely be used as an opportunity to hunt for visual content, but must be viewed as an extreme outdoor activity that prioritizes life safety above all else.
