Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc. recently completed a large-scale modernization project of its core system, which serves as the foundation of the company's operations. Facing the end of maintenance support for the SAP ECC 6.0 system, the company executed a strategic migration to the S/4HANA platform to ensure more stable and efficient business continuity in the future.

This transition process faced complex technical challenges, particularly related to determining accurate server capacity and managing large volumes of data. To mitigate these risks, the company's IT team implemented a phased resource adjustment approach. By utilizing IBM Power9 and Power10 servers, along with virtualization technology support, the company was able to precisely test capacity requirements before moving to the production environment.

One of the key achievements in this project was the use of IBM Storage's high-speed data copy feature, which successfully slashed migration downtime from five days to just one day. This efficiency allowed the company's operations to run without significant disruption during the crucial transition period over the 2025 Golden Week holiday.

In addition to improved stability, this strategy yielded significant financial benefits, saving up to 54 million yen in server software costs. The use of a Shared Processor Pool allowed for more flexible resource allocation, providing Shikoku Electric Power with high flexibility in managing diverse system workloads while preparing the company's infrastructure for future cloud adaptation.

This success not only secures the group's material management and accounting systems, but also serves as a blueprint for the EAM migration planned for fiscal year 2026. By prioritizing high availability and scalability, Shikoku Electric Power continues to strengthen its position in providing reliable energy services to the community in the Shikoku region.
