Global drone technology giant, DJI, has just achieved a significant milestone in technology exploration on Mount Everest. Through a series of missions conducted in mid-2026, the company successfully proved that unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology can operate optimally in extreme altitude terrain, bringing breakthroughs to climbing logistics and climate change research.

During operations, DJI deployed the FlyCart 100 drone to handle logistics delivery between Base Camp and Camp 1 on the South Slope. The results were quite impressive; the drone was able to transport a total of 10,073 kilograms of equipment and waste with a flight duration of just eight minutes per trip. This provides a crucial solution for Sherpas who previously had to risk their lives crossing the Khumbu Icefall for hours for similar needs.

Beyond logistics efficiency, DJI also tested the Matrice 4E drone's ability to map highly dangerous glacier areas. Equipped with high-resolution laser sensors, this technology can map an area of three square kilometers in a matter of hours with centimeter-level precision. This data provides crucial information for climbers regarding ice movement, directly enhancing safety and helping minimize accident risks on climbing routes.

On the other hand, DJI's collaboration with Peking University made history in atmospheric research. The use of the EV50 eVTOL drone allowed scientists to perform real-time pollutant monitoring up to an altitude of 8,861 meters. This initiative provides deep insights for the global scientific community regarding tropospheric conditions at the Earth's highest peak.

The success of this mission is not merely a display of technology, but a concrete step by DJI to support mountain conservation and climber safety. With the integration of this technology, sustainability targets such as the 'Zero Waste Initiative' in the Everest region are expected to be achieved faster, while making mountaineering a more modern, safe, and sustainable activity for the future.
