The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) provided a firm clarification regarding conflicting information circulating among the public about Mount Anak Krakatau's activity. Geological authorities confirmed that the volcano's status currently remains at Level III (Alert), dismissing rumors claiming that the current eruption would trigger a tsunami in the coastal regions of Banten and Lampung.
Acting Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, emphasized the importance of the public remaining calm and not being provoked by unfounded rumors. She urged all parties, including tourists and hikers, to comply with the exclusion zone within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center to anticipate threats of pyroclastic flows, lava streams, and other volcanic ejecta.
Furthermore, the Geological Agency stated that resident activities along the coast can proceed normally. However, the public is requested to continue monitoring the latest updates through official communication channels, such as the MAGMA Indonesia website or official PVMBG social media channels, to avoid exposure to misleading information that could cause mass panic.
In her official statement, Lana reaffirmed that discipline in filtering information is key to disaster mitigation during an Alert status. Her agency will continue to provide transparent data updates through the Krakatau Volcano Observation Post so that the public receives accurate and accountable information from credible sources.
