The Sorong City Health Office (Dinkes) has officially decided to conduct a thorough audit of the operations and service procedures at Maleo Hospital. This step was taken in response to public complaints going viral on social media regarding alleged delays in medical treatment that led to the death of a toddler patient.

Head of the Sorong City Health Office, Jemima Elisabeth Lobat, emphasized that this audit is being conducted to evaluate the objectivity of the standard operating procedures (SOP) implemented by the hospital. The formed audit team will consist of representatives from the health office, pediatricians, relevant medical personnel, academics, and legal experts to ensure the investigation is transparent and comprehensive.

"We will examine the entire workflow of patient care from admission until death to determine whether there was any element of negligence. We will report the results of this audit to the Sorong City Government before presenting them to the public," Jemima stated on Monday (13/7/2026).

The investigation process is expected to take between two to three weeks. This duration is necessary as the team must gather detailed data from various parties, including laboratory examination results and other medical records. Jemima also urged all hospitals in the Sorong City area to prioritize a responsive referral system if available medical facilities are inadequate to treat a patient's condition.

The case surfaced after a resident named Yuliasti Nasir shared her story on social media. In her post, she mentioned that her child, who was suffering from severe vomiting, was taken to the Emergency Room (IGD) of Maleo Hospital. However, the family was disappointed as the blood sample taken the previous night was not examined in the laboratory, and nurses even asked for a re-sampling due to an administrative oversight.
