Dong Thap Province is significantly accelerating the development of its sports sector. Amid a challenging administrative restructuring process, local authorities successfully ensured all 102 communes and wards held local-level sports congresses. This 100% completion rate serves as a key indicator of successful grassroots sports consolidation, which had been temporarily hampered by administrative adjustments.

To allow more time for thorough preparation, local authorities adjusted the original schedule for the Sports and Physical Education Congress. This policy proved effective in providing flexibility for the region to manage personnel, funding, and supporting facilities. As a result, public enthusiasm surged, with over 100,000 participants and spectators taking part in various sports events, ranging from popular disciplines to traditional folk games.

This success serves as a strategic stepping stone for Dong Thap Province as it prepares for the 10th National Sports Games in 2026. The provincial government has outlined a plan for the provincial-level Sports Festival, taking place from July to September 2026, featuring 26 sports disciplines to serve as a platform for selecting and training the region's top athletes.

Furthermore, Dong Thap has demonstrated serious commitment by aiming for a top-15 finish in the final standings of the 2026 Games. A total of 283 athletes are being systematically prepared, backed by funding from both the regional budget and socialized resources. This diversification strategy aims to enhance training quality to achieve the goal of winning 21 to 28 gold medals.

In addition to focusing on athletic achievements, the province has been granted the prestigious mandate to host the Pencak Silat events during the 10th National Sports Games. This appointment has driven local government efforts to upgrade sports venues and supporting infrastructure to ensure the smooth operation of this national-scale sporting event.
