Volcanic activity at Mount Dukono, located in North Halmahera, North Maluku, has shown another increase. On Wednesday (15/7/2026) morning at around 07:02 WIT, the volcano was reported to have erupted, spewing a thick column of ash approximately 2,300 meters above its peak.
Based on observations by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with thick intensity. Wind blew the volcanic material toward the north and northwest of the crater.
This eruption was recorded on seismograms with a maximum amplitude of 17 millimeters and an eruption earthquake duration of approximately 50.52 seconds. As of the latest report released by relevant authorities, the eruption process is still ongoing.
Currently, the activity level of Mount Dukono remains at Status Level II (Alert). In response to these conditions, authorities advise local residents and tourists not to approach or conduct activities around the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer sectoral radius to avoid eruption hazards.
