75th Anniversary of IBI, Kutim Regency Government Encourages Midwife Professionalism to Reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality Rates

SANGATTA – The Kutai Timur (Kutim) Regency Government is encouraging local midwives to continuously improve their capacity and professionalism in providing healthcare services. This is considered crucial to ensure equitable and safe maternal and child services, while simultaneously reducing maternal mortality rates (MMR) and infant mortality rates (IMR) in the region.

Vice Regent of Kutai Timur, Mahyunadi, stated that midwives play a crucial role as the spearhead of healthcare services, from pregnancy, through childbirth, to postpartum care. He made this statement while attending the 75th Anniversary celebration of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) Kutim Branch at the Meranti Room, Secretariat Office of Kutim Regency, Bukit Pelangi, Sangatta, on Saturday (1/8/2026).

According to Mahyunadi, midwives are not just medical service providers, but also educational agents capable of early detection of potential pregnancy risks and building trust within the community. Amidst the increasingly dynamic challenges of the healthcare sector, he urged these health workers to actively update their knowledge through continuous training.

Furthermore, he hoped that there would be no more cases of pregnant women in Kutai Timur losing their right to quality healthcare access simply due to geographical constraints or lack of information. He reaffirmed the regional government's commitment to supporting the strengthening of the midwifery sector to achieve healthcare equity for all citizens.

At the same location, Chairperson of IBI Kutim, Yuliana Kalalembang, explained that the 75th anniversary celebration of IBI carried the theme of strengthening midwife leadership in rights-based services to welcome the 2045 Golden Generation. This momentum was also enlivened by a series of social actions by 22 IBI branches across Kutim, including early cancer detection screenings and a health education video competition.

The series of events concluded with the symbolic cutting of the tumpeng (traditional cone-shaped rice dish) by Vice Regent Mahyunadi as an expression of gratitude. Additionally, awards were presented to several outstanding midwives recognized for their high dedication to improving the quality of family healthcare services in Kutai Timur Regency.
