The Navy Regional Command (Kodaeral) XIV Sorong has officially declared its commitment to fully support the development and training of water sports athletes in the Southwest Papua region. This strategic step is realized through close collaboration with the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Southwest Papua to scout and hone the potential of local talents from an early age.

This important agreement was reached during a formal meeting between the Commander of Kodaeral XIV Sorong, Rear Admiral TNI Djatmoko, and the Caretaker Chairman of KONI Southwest Papua, Major General TNI (Ret.) Eko Budi S., at the Kodaeral XIV Command Headquarters on Monday (27/7/2026). In this audience, Kodaeral XIV offered infrastructural support, including access to utilize facilities at various Navy bases under their command.

Rear Admiral TNI Djatmoko emphasized that his side is ready to align work programs with central government policies to advance marine sports. With the provision of adequate facilities and infrastructure, he is optimistic that Southwest Papua can produce highly competitive water sports athletes, both at national and international levels.

Deep appreciation was expressed by Major General TNI (Ret.) Eko Budi S. According to him, the active involvement of military institutions like the Navy is an important catalyst for the maritime sports ecosystem in the new province. This cross-institutional synergy is expected to accelerate the process of identifying top talent and strengthen sports achievements in the Southwest Papua region.
