The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is currently entering a crucial phase in its efforts to structure the national radio frequency spectrum. This strategic step is being taken to strengthen the foundation of digitalization in Indonesia, while simultaneously accelerating the implementation of a wider, more even, and highly stable 5G network.
After previously optimizing the 1.4 GHz band for *fixed broadband* needs, the government is now focusing its attention on the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands. The selection process for both frequency bands has been underway since April 2026 as part of the government's commitment to providing affordable, high-quality internet access for all people.
Based on the official announcement released on Tuesday (7/14/2026), PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk successfully led the acquisition of the 700 MHz band with an allocation of 30 MHz. Following behind, PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) and PT Indosat Tbk each received a share of 20 MHz. Meanwhile, for the 2.6 GHz band, Telkomsel ranked at the top with an allocation of 80 MHz, followed by Indosat which obtained 60 MHz.
Although the selection results have been announced, Komdigi stated that the decision is not yet final. Participants are given space to submit objections until the end of today. If there are no further obstacles or objections, the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, is scheduled to immediately determine the winners through a ministerial decree as the operational basis for utilizing the spectrum.
The utilization of this new frequency band is expected to significantly boost the national telecommunications network capacity. With the integration of this technology, the public is expected to enjoy more reliable 4G and 5G connectivity, which is a major prerequisite in supporting the future digital economy ecosystem.
