The cooperative sector in Indonesia has shown significant development, recording a total of 224,256 cooperatives as of early July 2026. The data, compiled through the ODS Mandiri and Simkopdes systems, reinforces the strategic role of cooperatives as a driving force for the collective economy, reaching various segments of society across the nation.
The Ministry of Cooperatives noted that the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KopDes) is the largest entity, reaching 75,024 units. This dominance is followed by Consumer Cooperatives with 72,852 units and Producer Cooperatives with 31,841 units. The diversity of these cooperative types is considered capable of accommodating the specific needs of citizens, ranging from the food sector to financing services.
Aggregately, the economic power generated by the national cooperative network is impressive, with a business volume reaching IDR 260 trillion. This figure is an indicator of the cooperatives' success in carrying out their function as a vehicle for inclusive economic empowerment, while also strengthening the business independence of communities in various sectors.
The high public enthusiasm for this economic model is reflected in the membership, which exceeds 34.2 million people. This participation is balanced between male members at 53.75 percent and female members at 46.25 percent, indicating equal access and active involvement of all elements of society in building shared prosperity through cooperatives.
