The Serang Regency Government (Pemkab), together with the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), has provided safety assurances for tourists planning to vacation in the coastal areas of Anyer and Cinangka. Although Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) is currently at alert status Level III (Siaga), the relevant authorities have ensured that the volcanic activity has no direct impact on the popular tourist destinations in Banten.
The Vice Regent of Serang, Muhammad Najib Hamas, firmly dismissed the narratives circulating on social media regarding videos of a major eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. He stated that the circulating footage was false information or a hoax that had been edited to create panic. As a step for verification, his party personally inspected the GAK Observation Post in Pasauran Village, Cinangka District, to ensure that conditions on the ground remained under control.
Echoing this sentiment, an officer from the GAK Observation Post, Deny Mardiono, explained that the danger zone radius is currently restricted to a distance of three kilometers from the center of the eruption. Given that the distance of Anyer, Cinangka, and Carita beaches is approximately 42 kilometers from the crater, the reach of volcanic material will not impact the tourist areas.
The PVMBG also emphasized that the visual activity currently observed is only thin plumes of smoke reaching heights of five to ten meters. To minimize misinformation, the public is urged not to be easily provoked by wild rumors and is advised to monitor official updates every six hours through the Magma Indonesia application or the official Geological Agency website.
