A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team is deploying personnel to search for two climbers reported to have lost contact on Mount Piramid, Bondowoso Regency, East Java. As of Tuesday (4/8/2026), search efforts continue to be intensified by combing the climbing route area known to have a very high level of safety risk.
The identities of the two climbers currently being searched for are Maliya Finda (51), a resident of Surabaya, and Erfan alias Irfan Nasrul Laili (35), a local guide from Bondowoso. Both were reported to have lost contact while climbing the mountain, which is famous for its extreme topography.
To maximize the rescue operation, the joint rescue team is focusing its search on the "Dragon's Back" (Punggung Naga) area. This path is known as one of the most dangerous routes because it has a very narrow terrain with steep ravines on both sides. These challenging geographical conditions demand high vigilance from SAR personnel in tracking the location of the two victims.
