The Indonesian Citizen Journalists Association (PPWI) of the Southwest Papua region has issued an official clarification regarding allegations of the involvement of one of its members, identified by the initials Yana, in the timber business in the Jalan Klalin area, Sorong Regency. PPWI emphasized that the activity is purely a domestic matter of the individual concerned and has nothing to do with the organization.
Yana, a single mother of four, runs a timber utilization business using wood from her family's customary forest to meet her family's economic needs. This step was taken independently as a survival effort and is not part of any work program or business unit managed by PPWI.
As a citizen journalism organization, PPWI describes itself as an inclusive platform for various segments of society, ranging from educators and traders to security personnel. While guaranteeing its members' right to associate, PPWI highlighted that the organization does not monitor or take responsibility for the personal economic activities of each individual member.
The General Chairman of DPN PPWI, Wilson Lalengke, emphasized that his party never condones unlawful actions and stands ready to assist its members in managing business legalities. He also urged local governments and relevant agencies to provide guidance and facilitate licensing access for small business owners so they can work peacefully.
PPWI also urged all parties to uphold the principle of presumption of innocence in addressing this issue. The public is expected not to rush to judgment or spread one-sided opinions that could harm the future of the family concerned or the organization's credibility without valid legal proof.
