A long search effort for two students from Rejosari Hamlet, Krinjing Village, Watumalang District, Wonosobo Regency, ended in tragedy. Alfin Nurohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), who were previously declared missing for ten days, were found dead in the Mount Bismo region.
Head of Watumalang District, Arief Hardiyanto, confirmed that the bodies of the two victims were found at the bottom of a 280-meter-deep ravine, specifically in the Curug Kalitelu area. The discovery resulted from the initiative of joint Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel who continued independent sweeps even after the official search operation was declared ended on the 10th day.
The evacuation team faced extreme terrain challenges while attempting to retrieve the bodies. In addition to the depth of the ravine, extremely dense forest vegetation as well as steep and slippery cliff conditions were the main obstacles faced by the team during the retrieval process to the main command post.
According to Arief, the discovery location had actually been included within the initial search radius of the SAR team. However, the victims' position deep at the bottom of the ravine was obscured by dense forest canopy, preventing their detection during previous sweeps.
This tragic incident began when the two teenagers said goodbye to go into the forest in the Mount Bismo area to fish and hunt for birds. The area is known to have steep and dangerous contours, making this incident a stark warning to the public about the importance of vigilance when engaging in activities in mountainous areas.
